Blind Justice
Yesterday I skimmed the local news headlines and came across a story of a 51-year old man sentenced to 3 years for murdering his pregnant wife:
Han John Han had driven a sword into his wife’s chest, ending her life while under the delusion that she was using black magic against him.
He pleaded insanity, all the murderers here do.
Today, another news story:
Song had assumed the identities of MSN Messenger users – chatting with their friends and changing their passwords to lock them out of their accounts.
Justice Liew Thiam Leng passed a deterrent sentence of 27 months in jail, stressing that Song’s act could undermine public confidence in e-communication.
36 months for murder and 27 months for stealing people’s MSN passwords and harassing/blackmailing them. I say Han John Han got a bargain! Couldn’t the kid just have pleaded insanity?
And of course should you be in possession of a controlled substance, you can expect to hang.
