Land at Last!

Some of you may have heard of the earthquake in Taiwan this week that damaged the underwater fiber Internet link Asia has to the Americas. My workplace was obviously also affected, although it seems that Motorola’s internal traffic gets router otherwise because the intranet seemingly worked fine.

It being Christmas I didn’t have much to do this shortened week. Hell, it was absolutely dead. With the Internet down this made for two extremely boring workdays. I tried to make the best of it by thoroughly exploring the corporate intranet, but one can only do that so long.

At one point, I looked out the window at the rain pouring down the glass and though “this must have been what Noah must have felt like, staring at the same animals all day, every day on the Ark.” And when Google finally (painstakingly) slowly gave me some search results, I knew the deluge was coming to an end! Land at Last!

Internet will be slow here for at least another two weeks as they fix the big pipe in the ocean. Meanwhile I’m enjoying two three-day work weeks in a row, with Christmas and New Year’s falling on Mondays. I’m looking forward to this weekend :) Gonna check out some world-class fireworks downtown. Hopefully it stays dry!
